The Truth About Life Itself

Life is short.

I hear people around me say this all the time. I say it as well!

In the grand scheme of things, when you think about history and what and who came before you and the possibility of what is coming, we are only here on this Earth for a little while.

Time is long but life is short.

So here is my question:

If we all know that life is short, why then, are we just not doing more of the stuff that brings us joy, creates happiness, creates and consolidates connections, doing the things that make an impact?

Honestly, it all comes down to being afraid of judgement and worrying what other people will think. But I will let you in on a little secret...

EVERYONE feels the same way and they are all too worried about YOU judging THEM, to be judging you! So really....we should just be getting on with our own thing and generating our own happiness!

The purpose of life is to be happy, to influence and impact others in a positive way, to be a light for those around you.

The most remarkable thing about life itself is that you even have one!

What are the chances that we are even here? What are the odds that we were even born?

The odds of you being born you are:

1 in 400 Trillion! Those are the odds!

Your life is LITERALLY a miracle! So don't you think it is about time that we:

1. Started acting like it's a miracle we are even here and

2. Started treating every person we meet in the same way?

Allow me to pre-frame today's learnings by saying: this has been my current chapter. These are the things that have been getting in my way and I know I am not alone.

Today is the beginning of the next chapter.

 We wait too long.

How many people do you know (or maybe you have experienced this yourself too) who have lost someone they know - a family member, a friend, a colleague - 'all too soon'?

It is times like those that we reflect on our own life because it becomes astoundingly clear how anything can happen at any time! We make a decision to live differently, to be more conscious, to do things we are afraid of, to live with more love and joy.

When we say these things, we absolutely believe ourselves and yet...about 95% of us, go back to not facing our fears, living without purpose and lack of presence all too quickly.

We wait too long to do the things we dream about doing. We let our fear of judgement or failing get in our way.

Comparison is the thief of joy. (Brene Brown)

It is human nature. We do it al the time with all the aspects of our lives. But how can we compare our first chapter to someone else's fifth chapter? The truth is that we are all on different paths, different journeys with different experiences and perceptions on life.

YET...we STILL compare ourselves to someone else with COMPLETELY different experiences and a totally different path!! The result is pain, fear, doubt, inaction. It's a terrible way to live and yet we seem to think it is okay to continue doing it (even though we know we shouldn't and we tell other people not to!)

 Adults are such hypocrites!

I'm going to say it! It's true. I include myself in this statement as well! Think about it...

We tell our little humans to not worry about what others are doing, or what others can do because everyone learns differently and at different times and everyone thinks differently too. We encourage them fiercely to chase their dreams, to be who they want to be in the world. We encourage them to face the world without fear and be open to challenges!

Yet....here we are keeping it 'safe' in our own lives. How are our kids - whether they are at school or at home - supposed to believe anything we say about who they can be, what they achieve and to understand that everyone is travelling a different journey - IF WE ARE NOT SHOWING THEM HOW TO DO IT?

It is time to change - if not for yourself, then do it for your kids.

So...if life is short and we want to make the most out of it and teach our young ones to do the same then we might need to shift our focus a little.

A 2mm shift in life can make a big difference!

Dream as if you will live forever. Live as if you will die tomorrow.

Sounds like one of those corny, cheesy quotes about life, right? Yep! That's because it is. But here is the thing I have realised. We all go through our days living like we are going to live forever. But we aren't! Deep down we know this and somewhere deep down it terrifies most of us! But we still don't use that to go and live our dreams and live our most amazing life. Your life does not have to be big acts of achievement. Most of the biggest wins in life that we have, often show up in the smallest moments.

This wonderfully cheesy quote is a simple reminder to go and do whatever it is you want to do and be who you want to be because let's face it, folks.....living in fear is not going to make our life any longer than it actually will be!

 This is your story

This is your life, your book, your story to tell. We spend so much time allowing other people to write it or influence how we write it. It is time to stop apologising for how you are writing it. Each chapter is different. Each chapter of your life brings different and new challenges and joys. Whatever chapter you are in will not last forever.

It is important that we teach our kids from a very early age, if life is challenging and hard, it will not last forever. It might feel that way but it won't. Then we have the opportunity to learn some lessons about ourselves, our life and other people. But a chapter is just a chapter and it is okay if it is not your favourite part.

 Stop comparing yourself.

400 Trillian to 1. Those are the odds. So if you think about it, there is literally NO-ONE else on the planet the same as you. Every minute you spend wishing you had someone else's life or an aspect of their life, is a minute spent wasting yours. Our insecurities come from comparing our lives to others but the thing we often forget is...we are only comparing to the outside version of their life, the part we can actually see! We can see the truth underneath. We can not see what happens when the door is closed. We can see behind the scenes. We make assumptions that other people are doing better, being better, looking better, feeling better than us but we really don't know the whole story.

Teach this to your little ones! We can only see the outside! True happiness is found when you stop comparing yourself to others.

 Put your truth out there.

Live your own truth, your own story. Express your own love in the way your heart desires. Share your enthusiasm for what you love or what you do with others. It is contagious! Take action towards your dreams because I promise you, everyone else will be wishing they were doing the same! Be grateful for your mistakes, failures and wins. Take care of yourself in body, mind and soul. In taking care of yourself you can take care of the world.

The time is now my friends.

Live a bold, courageous life of chance or live a fearful life of regret.
